Made in America: Our Advantage

A.A. Laun is proud to be an American Manufacturer and we look forward to continuing our tradition of making quality furniture in Kiel, Wisconsin. Learn more about our advantage below.

OUR EMPLOYEES

It starts with people. Many of our employees are from second, third, and even fourth generation families that have served our company. Our employees average over 15 years of service. Not only are they experienced, many possess woodworking skills that have been passed on through generations.

LEAN MANUFACTURING

Several years ago, under the guidance of the Wisconsin Manufacturers Extension Partnership, our employees were introduced to the principals of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. WMEP is a state sponsored program that assists companies in lowering costs, eliminating waste, and improving productivity through things such as smaller production runs and cellular manufacturing.

SMART TECHNOLOGY

Through the years, A.A. Laun Furniture Company has provided its employees with the latest woodworking technology including computerized machinery. In 1980, we bought one of the industry’s first computerized routing machines. In the same year, we expanded our dry kiln capacity, converted to the automated burning of our wood scraps for heat, and added another large silo to store our wood waste. We followed that with a computerized rough mill which enables us to cut our lumber more efficiently with less waste. Other major purchases include a new moulder, turning lathe, planer sander, finish sander, and several multi-head computerized work centers.

TRADITIONAL CRAFTMANSHIP

Even with the latest in technology, there is no substitute for the dedicated craftsmanship of our employees, making beautiful furniture at A.A. Laun Furniture Company, and treating each piece of furniture as if it’s their own.

QUALITY PRODUCTS

We offer a wide selection of real wood furniture items—no particle board—which showcase our ability to process solid wood. Even where it’s appropriate to use plywood, we use nothing but the highest quality wood veneered panels. While many furniture manufacturers have gone to nails and staples, we still rely on traditional screws and dowels for quality construction. Our drawers are solid maple English dovetailed drawer boxes, most guided by a full extension side mounted slide that gives them a quality fit and feel.

Made in America

Creativity is the lifeblood of the furniture industry. We pay close attention to fashion trends and listen to our customers. While most of the furniture sold today is imported, one of our main advantages is manufacturing in Kiel, Wisconsin. We can respond quickly to changes in the marketplace, having a new design in production and finished to your specifications in a matter of weeks. Delivery of an imported product can take up to a year.

GREEN STATEMENT

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact. Most of our lumber is procured locally from sustainable hardwood forests, lowering the expense of shipping over long distances. Our plywood and veneers have certificates of carbon compliance, and our finishes are low VOC lacquers that are well below all current government regulations for emissions. We utilize our wood waste to minimize our need for natural gas to heat our factory and to process our lumber. These are just a few examples as we are always looking for ways to conserve and reduce our carbon footprint.
